Freelance Drama Facilitator with Experience of Working with neurodivergent and SEN young people

Attic Theatre Company is recruiting a Dance Facilitator for our Movement and Dance workshops – Feel Good Fridays, aimed at adults living with Dementia (and their carers). This project forms part of Attic’s Older People’s participatory arts programme, Many Moons, working in partnership with the Merton Memory Hub in Mitcham, South London.

Dance-based activities effectively prevent, manage and treat dementia by improving physical and mental health, reducing cognitive decline, and countering feelings of anxiety, isolation, and depression. These inclusive classes introduce participants to various dance styles, promoting health and wellbeing through creative movement. Sessions benefit both those living with dementia and their carers, fostering connections and providing respite.

The Dance Facilitator will have overall responsibility for the delivery of workshops, including their preparation and the administrative support required during the sessions. This includes meeting the requirements set down by the Creative Engagement Producer and the funding bodies.

Board Members

We are currently recruiting for new Trustees. We are looking for trustees with experience in marketing and social media, or those with a knowledge of the arts sector or of south London. Overall skills in management, governance and strategic direction are advantageous.

With a new Artistic Director and a new Creative Engagement Producer, both managed by our longstanding Executive Director who oversees the organisation on a day to day basis, this is a perfect opportunity for new trustees to join the company at a pivotal point of change.

As a trustee you will be instrumental in driving the organisation forward, shaping its strategic vision and pinpointing key target groups to expand our services to. From a strong funding base and a new artistic direction, trustees will be able to work with the new team to capitalise on the momentum of increased demand for our activities and grow the organisation to a point where we can explore applying for National Portfolio Status to the Arts Council in 2027.

Before you apply

Actors

When actively casting one of our shows, we usually do this through Spotlight as well as posting relevant details here and circulating them on Twitter. At other times, due to our size we are unable to accept unsolicited submissions. The only exception to this is if you are a Merton, Wandsworth or Sutton based actor. Get in touch and we’ll keep your details on file as we love working with local people where possible.

Writers

We commission around one show a year and do not generally perform existing plays. We therefore are not able to read unsolicited submissions and have to be very focused about the work we solicit. We occasionally have open calls and other opportunities for writer. These will be posted here and on Twitter, as well as other writers networks. If you are particularly interested in what we do and would like to make us aware of your work, drop us an email with a writing CV and we’ll keep your details on file and get in touch should anything come up. As with actors, we are particularly interested to hear from those who live locally to us.

Designers, composers and other creatives

We’re always keen to be introduced to the work of composers, designers and lighting designers we don’t know. Drop us a short email with a CV and we’ll keep you in mind.

Facilitators and workshop leaders

We deliver creative workshops in a range of artforms across Merton for people of every age. If we are recruiting for a specific project opportunities will be advertised here. But if you’re a facilitator or workshop leader and would like to introduce yourself, particularly if you live locally, just get in touch.

Interns and Volunteers

Around our shows we often have opportunities for interns or volunteers. We’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in working with us. Drop us a short email telling us why and we’ll be in touch should anything come up.

We are always on the look out for local people, young and old, who want to get involved with our projects. Whether it’s helping front of house when we’re doing a show, spreading the word about a visiting production in your local community, or helping at a regular time in our office. If you are interested get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
