Four new short plays bursting with the soul of Merton
Written by artists who either live or work locally
Dive into the heart of the borough with four new plays from the mind of some of the UK’s top writing talent, all inspired by the vibrant tapestry of Merton’s people and places.
These script in hand performances will give you a chance to see work in it’s freshest form – straight off the page.

The four writers are:
Rachael Black with Attic Theatre’s ReWrite group – Rachael is a playwright and facilitator. She has worked for Attic in the Merton for over 7 years on our refugee and asylum seeking youth projects and is a playwright working with organisations including Live Theatre. Rachael has collaborated on Orgins with Attic’s ReWrite group; a group of writers living in the borough currently seeking asylum.
Adam Hughes – Adam is a playwright and screenwriter from Leeds, of Polish and Ukrainian heritage who has lived in Mitcham for several years. He is under-commission to English Touring Theatre and Leeds Playhouse and is currently writing a second episode of SISTER BONIFACE MYSTERIES (BBC).
Conrad Murray – Conrad is a theatre-maker, writer, director, actor, performer, rapper, beatboxer, live looper and singer. Raised in Mitcham, he is passionate about making work through hip hop and beatbox theatre. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the BAC BEATBOX ACADEMY and theatre company BEATS & ELEMENTS. Conrad is also a former Trustee of Attic.
Daniel Ward – Daniel is an award winning writer and Merton resident. His debut play THE CANARY AND THE CROW won him the George Devine Award and Writers’ Guild Award for Best Play for Young Audiences. Daniel also wrote UNLOCKING CANONS HOUSE, Attic’s heritage production that celebrates the history of the newly restored Canons House in Mitcham.
The pieces are being commissioned by Attic Theatre Company and the Merton Library Service and are part of Attic Theatre Company’s 30th Birthday year.
